Renault UK is notifying customers about a data breach that occurred due to a cyberattack on one of its third-party service providers. The company confirmed that personal and vehicle-related data was stolen, but emphasized that its own systems and customer financial information were not compromised.
Renault UK began emailing affected drivers to explain that the incident was isolated to the vendor’s system, and not Renault’s internal infrastructure. A company spokesperson confirmed the service provider has contained the attack and removed the vulnerability. Renault is now collaborating with the vendor and has notified all relevant authorities.
The stolen data includes sensitive personal and vehicle information, which may involve some or all of the following details for affected customers:
- Personal Information: Full names, addresses, dates of birth, gender, and phone numbers.
- Vehicle Information: Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) and vehicle registration numbers.
Renault reiterated that because it does not hold customer financial details, no bank or payment card information was exposed.
Warning to Customers
Renault UK is urging all affected drivers to be vigilant and cautious of any unsolicited communication, especially those asking for personal information via phone or email. The company stressed that it will never ask customers for their passwords.
Renault expressed deep regret for the incident and directed customers seeking further information to its official data privacy page or to contact its Data Protection Officer.
