Hackers have stolen the private details of potentially millions of customers from luxury brands like Gucci, Balenciaga, and Alexander McQueen, which are owned by the French company Kering. According to a BBC report, the cybercriminals behind the attack have identified themselves as ShinyHunters.
Kering confirmed in a statement that an "unauthorized third party" gained temporary access to their systems in June and accessed limited customer data from some of their brands. The stolen information includes names, email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses, as well as the total amount of money customers have spent in the stores. Kering was quick to clarify that no financial information, such as credit card or bank account numbers, was stolen.
The ShinyHunters group claims to have obtained data linked to 7.4 million unique email addresses. This incident appears to be part of a larger trend affecting luxury brands, with similar breaches also affecting Richemont’s Cartier and Louis Vuitton, a brand owned by LVMH.
The company said that its brands immediately disclosed the breach to the relevant authorities and notified customers in accordance with local regulations. Kering did not comment when asked which specific countries were impacted by the attack.
