Meta Unveils Super PAC to Fight AI Regulation

Meta Unveils Super PAC to Fight AI Regulation

Meta is escalating its efforts against AI regulation by investing tens of millions of dollars into a new Super PAC. The organization, called the American Technology Excellence Project, will fight state-level policies that Meta believes could hinder the advancement of AI.
This new Super PAC is the latest move by Meta to influence tech policy. Last month, the company launched a similar PAC focused on California to support tech-friendly candidates.
The American Technology Excellence Project will be led by Republican veteran Brian Baker and Democratic consulting firm Hilltop Public Solutions. Its goal is to elect politicians from both parties who are favorable to the tech industry in next year's midterm elections.
According to a Meta spokesperson, the Super PAC will focus on promoting American tech leadership, advocating for AI progress, and giving parents more control over how their children use online apps and AI. The focus on child safety comes as Meta faces increased scrutiny over its chatbots' interactions with minors.
The company has not yet said which states the new Super PAC will target.

The Push for AI Regulation

Meta's new initiative comes at a time when states are increasingly proposing their own AI regulations, partly due to a perceived lack of federal action. Over 1,000 bills related to AI were introduced in all 50 states during the 2025 legislative session.
In California, for example, two bills that would regulate AI companion chatbots and set transparency requirements for large AI companies are awaiting a signature from the governor.
Other major tech players have also ramped up their efforts to curb state-level AI legislation. Silicon Valley argues that a "patchwork" of different state laws would be difficult to manage and could slow down innovation, especially as the U.S. competes with China in AI development.
Last month, Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI launched their own Super PAC with $100 million dedicated to opposing AI regulation.
