OpenAI is currently conducting internal tests of a new, highly advanced AI agent powered by a special model referred to as "GPT-Alpha."
The existence of this agent was revealed earlier today when OpenAI briefly and accidentally released an unreleased feature to all users. The feature, named "Agent with Truncation" and listed under Alpha Models, included a system prompt that detailed its capabilities.
Agent Capabilities
The internal prompt confirmed the GPT-Alpha agent is designed to execute a broad range of features using advanced reasoning and tool use from "GPT-5," including:
- Browsing the web for the most current or niche information.
- Generating and editing images.
- Writing, running, and debugging code.
- Creating and editing documents, spreadsheets, and slides.
A strict constraint on the agent is that it must not access or expose private information unless the user explicitly provides it.
It's currently unknown when this new agent will be released, but OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously indicated that the company plans to roll out such advanced features as premium options, likely due to the significant computing power required to run them. This new agent is expected to be among the initial premium features offered for paid ChatGPT subscribers.
