Massive Data Theft at Allianz Life Impacts 1.5M People

A breach at Allianz Life exposed the personal data of nearly 1.5 million people after hackers successfully targeted a cloud-based Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.

The incident was first disclosed by Allianz Life in July 2025, affecting a large portion of its customers and staff in North America. The insurance firm has now confirmed that the total number of affected individuals is 1,497,036, according to a notice filed with the Maine Attorney General's Office.

The breach occurred on July 16,2025, when a threat actor used social engineering to gain access to a third-party CRM system. The compromised data, stolen from the company's Salesforce instances, included sensitive personal details of customers, financial professionals, and some employees:

  • Names and Addresses
  • Birth Dates
  • Phone Numbers and Email Addresses
  • Social Security numbers (Tax IDs)

The leaked files, which contain about 2.8 million records from Salesforce "Accounts" and "Contacts" tables, also exposed professional information such as licenses, firm affiliations, product approvals, and marketing classifications.

Threat Actor Attribution

Allianz Life immediately took action to contain the incident and notified the FBI, emphasizing that there is no evidence its internal network or critical systems were accessed.

Although the company declined to name the threat actor, the breach is widely believed to be linked to the notorious hacking crew ShinyHunters. This group is famous for selling data stolen from major organizations, including Ticketmaster, Microsoft, and AT&T. In August, ShinyHunters teamed up with other hacking crews, including Scattered Spider and Lapsus$, to form a Telegram channel where they claimed responsibility for the Allianz Life attack and leaked complete databases stolen from the company's Salesforce instances.

Allianz Life is now offering affected individuals two years of free Kroll Identity Monitoring services to help detect any misuse of their personal data.
