Hackers Reportedly Breach Systems of Israeli Satellite Operator

Spacecom, the Israeli firm behind the AMOS satellite fleet has reportedly been targeted by the pro-Palestinian hacker group Handala. The group claims to have accessed the company’s ground control stations and stolen hundreds of gigabytes of data, though researchers remain skeptical about the extent of the breach.

Handala posted Spacecom on its dark web blog, alleging it obtained 379GB of data, including files from ground stations and personal information about employees. Spacecom operates satellites that support civilian and military communications across the Middle East, Europe, and other regions, with annual revenue near $100 million.

Cybernews analysts reviewed a sample of the leaked data, which included screenshots of NDA agreements and a compressed folder containing 960MB of satellite log files. These RINEX files could help monitor operations but lack the sensitive details needed for full exploitation.

Researchers believe the data may be more useful for social engineering than for compromising satellite systems. They found no strong evidence that the attackers gained control over critical infrastructure but advised Spacecom to secure any vulnerable systems.

Handala, a pro-Tehran hacktivist group, frequently targets Israeli and Western entities. It operates similarly to ransomware gangs, using its blog to publish stolen data. Earlier this year, the group also targeted Iran International, a rare source of independent news in Iran.
